First Week in Shreveport

Today is Monday, July 6, 2026. I have been in Shreveport, Louisiana for a little over a week. Here are some photos and explanations from my first week here.

Eating my Mom’s Food

I have been able to enjoy two of my mom’s meals already. After a pretty wild and exhausting moving day on Saturday, June 27, 2026, I arrived to Shreveport and was welcomed with some of my mom’s baked BBQ chicken. My mom is the queen of baked chicken, in all different flavors, and I was so thrilled to have some home cooked food. Shout out to my friend Anushka for helping me pick out this Le Creuset pan as a gift to my mom. She loves it and uses it (and scrubs it after she’s done to return it to its ‘brand new’ glory every time).

Interesting Unknown Public Art

I saw this interesting piece of public art somewhere. I don’t remember where and this picture is definitely not the best. I don’t know what it means. Ha! My randomness!

Mediocre and Overpriced Mexican Food

Mom and I went to this mediocre ass Mexican place called “Ki Mexico” in Shreveport last weekend. I already know that living in Houston has absolutely spoiled me when it comes to restaurants of any kind, but especially authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex. This food was neither and I stand ten toes down on that opinion. The food was acceptable and the service was great, but I wouldn’t go back here or recommend this place to anyone. No chips and salsa were served and I don’t think they had queso. But this is a great place if you’d like to shell out $48 for two street tacos, a Mexican coke, a glass of tea, and a breakfast torta sandwich. I am shocked by the good reviews that this place has, but apparently the patrons don’t know how they’re getting ripped off at this place.

I did convince my mom to try the chorizo breakfast sausage and her rave review as “the sausage doesn’t look like I thought it would”. Ha hahaha!

Gigi Loves the Windows

After living in a high rise for 14 months, I think my cat is thrilled to be back down where the trees are. This is her favorite spot in the AirBnB, where she can be found most of the day sleeping or keeping a watchful eye on birds and traffic.

The Chairs in the AirBnB are Playing in my Face

My AirBnB is nice but it has the worst seating of anywhere I have every stayed, ever. Here’s a picture of the countertop stools. I am showing my hand on the stool so you can easily understand how small this thing is. Now, put your own hand on your ass and tell me how much coverage there is. Unless you have freakishly large hands or a freakishly small ass, you understand how ridiculous these things are.

The futon, attempting to masquerade as a proper couch, is also TERRIBLE. It is currently covered with blankets to protect it from basic sitting activities. One of the seams is coming apart even though it has sustained zero damage from my cat, who does not scratch furniture. I have notified the host that their $400 piece of shit excuse for a couch is literally falling apart. If that thing collapses under the weight of my moderately fat ass, I am calling an attorney.

I went to the local AtHome store and bought a cheap lawn chair and cushion, both of which I can leave with my mom when it’s time for me to go. This is my current “office chair” and what I am sitting in right now to write this blog post. Such a shameful state of affairs!

Gigi’s New Scratching Post

I tried to bring Gigi’s old scratching post along with us for this four-month journey, but it didn’t make it. My car was so jammed packed, that I’d tried to shove the scratching post against the front windshield, the only space I had left in the car.

After I’d driven a few feet, I realized that I absolutely could not see out of the passenger side rearview mirror and I had to leave it behind. I had to turn around, drive to my old apartment complex’s dumpster, and throw it in there before leaving.

So, the day after I arrived, I went to PetCo to get another scratching post and some catnip. Having an espresso martini shaped scratching post was certainly not my first choice, but I think it is cute and was the only option that I think will be able to easily fit into my car once we make our way towards Denver, CO.

Regions Bank Building Downtown Shreveport

Regions Bank building in Shreveport

The Regions Bank building in Shreveport is apparently the tallest building in northwest Louisiana and has 25 stories. I wonder if I can sneak in there to see what it looks like one day?!

Sportran Bus Place?

According to my mom, this cool looking building, which used to be the Haverty’s Furniture for decades, throughout my entire childhood, now houses the Sportran public bus service offices and has some small restaurant stalls inside. I will go inside and check it out one day. I love the neon sign and block style paint job.

Crossing the Jimmy Davis Bridge

I accidentally got turned around whilst driving and had to cross this terrifying looking bridge, which was covered in powder-pink plastic tarps. I am not afraid of heights and I don’t usually freak out when crossing bridges, but I thought that surely it was a bad idea for me to drive across a bridge that looks like it is covered in bubble gum paper wrapping. I was able to make it across and back without incident.

Making Ice at Home

And lastly, here’s a picture of how I went from having indoor water and ice at my high-rise apartment to manually filling and freezing ice using a tray. Oh, how the mighty have fallen LOL. I will say though that these big ass cubes of ice are quite good at keeping drinks cold.

Which of my northwest Louisiana tales was most interesting to you?
